DESCRIPTION
In the heart of the estate, halfway up the hill overlooking the Orcia river, in a moderately oblique point towards the south is the Poggio al Vento vineyard. The name literally means "hill exposed to the wind" and this aspect in conjunction with the particular composition of the soil produces the exceptional Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento. The dominant and elegant tannins present in the wine require a long and traditional aging in large oak barrels. After bottling, the wine needs another 3 years of refinement in the bottle before being presented on the market. Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is produced only in the best vintages and represents one of the highest expressions of pure Sangiovese that can be found in Montalcino.
Poggio al Vento vineyard, Montalcino - Siena - Sant'Angelo in Colle hill overlooking the Orcia river.
Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28 ° C in steel vats of 50 and 60 hl, in order to select the different areas of the vineyard in an optimal way. During the maceration, lasting 20-25 days, daily pumping over and long delestages are performed. The malolactic fermentation was carried out in concrete and the first racking was carried out directly in wood in the spring of 2011
Aging for 3 years in 25 and 75 hl Allier and Slavonian oak barrels. The bottling is followed by about 16 months of bottle aging in conditioned environments.
Color: Intense ruby red. Bouquet: A wine of great complexity, fine and elegant. It presents the typical fruity notes of Sangiovese, integrated with the spices given by the long stay in the barrel. Taste: Powerful and harmonious, with well ripe and enveloping tannins, in balance with a pleasant acidity. Fruity, long and persistent aftertaste.

CELLAR
Col d'Orcia is one of the historic companies of Montalcino. Today's lineage dates back to at least 1890, the date on which official documents show that the Franceschi family originally from Florence bought the property, later known as Fattoria di Sant'Angelo in Colle. In early 1933 the Fattoria di Sant'Angelo in Colle presented its Brunellis at the "wine exhibition" (First Exhibition of Italian Wines) held in Siena, one of the first commercial activities presented in Italy, decades before the Brunello became a precious (first class) wine of international and world level.
