Elena Walch
Elena Walch – the Woman of Wine from Alto Adige. Elena Walch, who actually trained as an architect, has put all her energy into her vineyards since 1985, because “good wine doesn't grow alone,” says Elena. Today, the entrepreneur not only has an excellent base line, but also the two South Tyrolean top crus Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz. Today, both are 100% owned by the Walch family.
Elena Walch is linked to the tradition of South Tyrolean viticulture, but has both feet on the soil of South Tyrol. Modern technology and uncompromising innovation in the vineyard and cellar have always been important to her. Piece by piece, the pergolas planted in Vernatsch were then cleared in favor of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and Merlot vines planted in the modern Guyot formation.
Low yields, impeccable grapes and a particularly delicate vinification of the wines with a targeted use of wood produce particularly concentrated, fruity and at the same time elegant white wines with a beautiful varietal typicality.
But Elena Walch has mastered not only white, but also red wine. The full-bodied and harmonious red wines of Alto Adige, real workhorses with manners, are the result. Above Lake Caldaro, at 380 meters above sea level, lies Castel Ringberg, the Walch family estate and also the largest contiguous vineyard in Alto Adige.
The picturesque Renaissance castle, built in the 20th century by the Habsburgs, is surrounded by XNUMX hectares of vineyards. Not only do international grape varieties grow here, but the indigenous Lagrein was also recently planted.
