In 1978 the Italian American brothers John and Harry Mariani created theBanfi farm, starting an ambitious and complex project. The brothers were joined by the well-known and esteemed winemaker Ezio Rivella who helped them in the production of their wines until they became Castello Banfi a rare pearl that with finesse and mastery has conquered all of Montalcino first and all of Italy afterwards. The two brothers never stopped, always trying to improve and above all always using new technologies and staying constantly updated on new production and winemaking techniques.
Banfi has extended its properties reaching Bolgheri and Piedmont. In Piedmont, in 1979, he took over the Bruzzone winery with about 46 hectares of vineyards and a winery that produces both Charmat method sparkling wines is classic method sparkling wines.
The cellar is perfectly structured in order to preserve the grapes and Banfi is always looking for new methods of selection and vinification. The Montalcino estate has 2830 hectares of which more than 900 are used as vineyards.
