Olivier Leflaive
The Leflaive family has always had a few hectares of vines in Burgundy, in addition to their own farm. Immediately after World War I, Olivier's grandfather, Joseph Leflaive, was faced with the bankruptcy of his steel mill in Saint-Etienne.
His investments in Burgundy were all he had left and he decided to expand his wine estate. It has become a family-run operation covering approximately 35 hectares. His son, Joseph Régis, was decided to take over the reins in 1953.
The estate soon began producing premium wines in the 70s. This was an important step for winemakers in this village which sits two meters above the water table and, as such, had no underground cellars.
Olivier Leflaive is in the small circle of historical producers of the Puligny-Montrachet denomination. The foundation of the current Domaine took place in 1920, when Joseph Leflaive he decided to make and market the wines produced by the prestigious family vineyards on his own. Upon his death, the management of everything passed into the hands of his children, who will continue their father's project and bring the company to great levels of excellence.
The decisive push towards the Olympus of Burgundy and the world of wine in general occurred when the company passed into the hands of Anne-Claude Leflaive, daughter of Vincent, one of great women of wine and Burgundy: it was she, thanks also to the collaboration of Pierre Morey first and then Eric Remy, who accelerated the voting process at the biodynamic management of the vineyards. This is to perpetrate the absolute pursuit of quality, without corruption and compromise, in order to keep the character of the territory and the wine intact.
