Louis jadot
The history of the Louis Jadot estate begins in 1826, when the Jadot family came into possession of the Premier Cru vineyard “Beaune Clos des Ursules”. The wine history of Domaine Louis Jadot or how it all began. A little later, in 1859 to be precise, it was a son of the family, Louis Henry Denis Jadot, who officially founded the Maison Louis Jadot in Beaune.
But not only him, but above all the generations that followed him, were very enterprising and managed to constantly expand the company by opening new markets and purchasing vineyards. Today, important key markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom still form a solid base for Jadot family wines.
Today, the winery works on more than 240 hectares of vineyards, always in the prestigious areas of Burgundy AOC. Meanwhile, several wineries belong to the Jadot group. Among others the
- Château des Jacques in Beaujolais
- the Domaine Ferret in Fuissé
- the Domaine Duc de Magenta e
- the Domaine Gagey in the Côte de Beaune.
The head of the wine god Bacchus, the frieze as a border and the special coloring are not only the unmistakable characteristics of the house of Louis Jadot, but also the quality promise of generations of having wanted the best for every single bottle from the regional and Villages wines up to the Premier and Grand Cru.
Vinifying the wines strictly according to their origin and thus capturing the unmistakable character of the Burgundian slopes, this is the declared goal of all the actors of the house of Jadot. According to the centuries-old classification of the Cistercian monks, each vineyard is vinified and bottled individually. This is why Jadot has helped determine the quality of an entire region for almost 200 years.
Terroir is an interaction of soil, man and climate.
The region on the “golden slopes” of the Cote d'Or between Dijon in the north and Chalon-sur-Saône in the south is known as one of the most demanding regions in the world. The mosaic potpourri of different soils, sites, producers and stories makes Burgundy one of the most complex regions for viticulture. Louis Jadot considers himself the custodian of an individual taste, which can vary from site to site and which is passed down from generation to generation.
Traditionally, Burgundy wines are always monovarietal and made with Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites. Occasionally, some Gamay for the reds and Aligoté for the whites enter the vineyard, which produce wines that are more fragrant and lighter than their bigger brothers.
The use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides has completely disappeared from the company's philosophy over the last 20 years. Instead, the company relies on activating soil life through gentle mechanical cultivation, including by horses. The vines are carefully cared for to damage the roots as little as possible. As the roots go deep into the earth, the minerals they contain are also carried into the grapes, which captures the unmistakable character of Burgundy in every bottle.
Strict yield reduction distributes the vine's strength evenly among its offspring, thus producing the best grapes. No dogma. Balance and harmony in cultivation and aging are the solid pillars for a quality that is second to none.
