By Majo Norante
By Majo Norante: In the south of the Italian peninsula, at the upper end of the boot spur, the Gargano, lies the smallest region in Italy, Molise. The soil and climate here are particularly favorable thanks to the location between the foothills of the Apennines and the Mediterranean. In ancient times it was the Samnites, the Oscans and the ancient Romans who cultivated vines here which have survived to this day and, in a sort of renaissance, have gained new prestige and new fans in recent decades.
This is also thanks to winemakers like Di Majo Norante and their passion for the terroir. Since 1800, the wines have been produced from their vineyards at Masseria Norante, in what was then the county of Molise. The old cellars, which are located under the square of Campomarino and the old family palace, bear witness to this. The exceptional young winemaker Alessio Di Majo Norante inherited the passion from his father Luigi and is carrying the legacy into the future. He particularly loves the ancient vines of the region and, with the well-known winemaker Riccardo Cottarella at his side, he has brought their potential back to the fore.
The grapes thrive on 125 hectares of the historic property of the Counts Norante family, from which the eye can look far across the Mediterranean, on sandy soils caressed by Mediterranean winds.
The cellar is recognized as organic. It is rigorously bred and cultivated in an organic and partly biodynamic way, traditional and innovative at the same time. The result is a high-quality wine, from pleasant and easily accessible white wines to fruity, dense and concentrated red wines, and all this at a surprisingly reasonable price, which have meanwhile also made a name for themselves internationally and find lovers in Worldwide.
