Château d'Esclans
The first traces of the Château d'Esclans they date back to the Roman Empire, a period in which it served as a control tower over the Gulf of Fréjus, in order to prevent any maritime invasions. Built in the 1875th century, the current château has seen a succession of owners: it was acquired by the Ranque brothers, then by Joseph Toussaint Caussemille in 1955 and by the Perraud family from 1994 (to XNUMX).
It later belonged to a Swedish pension fund prior to its acquisition by Sacha lichine in 2006. The latter, of Bordeaux origins, contributes to the reputation of the brand worldwide and to the production of luxury rosé wines with the Côtes de Provence appellation.
Castle d'Esclans is located on an exceptional site, on land near the gorges de Pennafort, 25 km north-west of the Roman city of Frejus, on the Mediterranean coast. The first traces of the winery date back to the times when its elevated position was used as a lookout point to identify intruders arriving by boat in the Gulf of Frejus.
Originally the structure of the cellar (now known as the oldest in the region) was a castle donated by the Count of Provence to Gérard De Villeneuve, in 1201.
La structure current, inspired by the Tuscan villas, it was built during the mid XNUMXth century. Château d'Esclans is located in the center of the Var Department, where most of theAOC Provence Rosé. Sacha Lichine bought Château d'Esclans in 2006.
