Taittinger
Reims' prestigious Taittinger champagne house dates back to the 200th century, when the house was still known as Forest-Fourneaux. Almost 280 years after its founding, the domain was sold to Pierre Taittinger, who renamed the Champagne Taittinger estate. The extension of the vineyards today covers more than XNUMX hectares. In addition, the winery has the largest walled vineyard in the region, which is located in Val-de-Murigny.
Production and storage take place partly in old underground gypsum quarries from the Roman era. The underground cellars belong to the ancient abbey of Saint-Nicaise, which was built by Benedictine monks at the time. These cellars were put into operation after the end of the Second World War.
After the death of François Taittinger, his brother Claude followed in his footsteps. Under his reign, the champagne house gained a lot of respect around the world. Partly due to this new status, the businesses were expanded to include the purchase of luxury goods and real estate.
The Taittinger Brut Reservé consists of 40% Chardonnay and is further integrated with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The grapes come from 35 different vineyards. In addition, the production consists of two world-famous prestige cuvées, both released under the name of Comtes de Champagne.
The Comtes de Champagne cuvée is available in a Blanc de Blancs of 100% Chardonnay or in a rosé variant of 100% Pinot Noir. In addition, the winery regularly collaborates with various artists, where the bottle acts as a canvas and is eventually transformed into a work of art signed by the artist.
The fourteenth part of this series “Taittinger Collection” was created in collaboration with the famous Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado and was created for the Taittinger Brut Millésimé 2008. The work shows a leopard drinking from a river in Namibia. The river is the symbol of a source of life. The champagnes of the Taittinger Collection have now become real collector's items.
