Louis Roederer
The renowned Louis Roederer champagne house was founded in Reims in 1776 and has been family-run ever since. Champagne Louis Roederer - the first choice of the tsar.
In 1833, Louis Roederer took over the family business from his uncle Nicolas Schreider and gave it his name. Since then, thanks to family involvement and good connections with street vendors, sales of Roederer champagne grew to one-tenth of total Champagne production in 1872.
The main client during this period, besides the United States of America, was the Russian Tsarist Empire. Tsar Nicolaus II, himself a great lover of the Roederer champagnes, ordered a special vintage in Reims and sent his court cellarman specifically to support the sparkling wine producers. The product of this collaboration was the world famous and still very popular Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal.
Success is the sum of the right decisions.
While other champagne producers have their grapes delivered by contract growers, Louis Roederer decided to follow a different strategy by buying more vineyards around Reims. Frédéric Rouzaud, the current leader of the Roederer house, continued this tradition and brought 214 hectares of vineyards to the family property.
Despite the high production figures of the Champagne house Louis Roederer, they never manage to meet the huge demand for their noble products due to the high production standards.
