The Crotta of Vegneron
The Crotta of Vegneron was born in 1980 with about 25 partners. Today, with more than 50 members, it has produced 200.000 bottles. The Cooperative collects the grapes of two important production areas that give their name to the designations of origin Chambave (which also includes the municipalities of Châtillon, Saint Vincent, Saint Denis and Verrayes) and Nus (which also includes the municipalities of Quart and Fénis) .
The Valle d'Aosta DOC wines of our production are born in a mountain environment with steep slopes and very fragmented vineyards, whose exposure is mainly to the south. In our Cooperative 40% of the total production is represented by red berried grapes, while 60% by white berried grapes.
On the slopes of Chambave, at the gates of Aosta, facing the sun, more and more vineyards have been planted over the course of history, despite the difficult growing conditions. Their grapes are mainly delivered to the La Crotta di Vegneron winemaking cooperative.
The first wine production of the cooperative, founded in 1980, dates back to the autumn of 1985. If then only 25 winegrowers delivered the fruits of their labor to the cooperative in Valle d'Aosta, today there are about 120 winegrowers from small fragmented estates that they transport their grapes, mostly hand-picked, to the cellars of the cooperative.
The DOC Chambave area includes the districts of Châtillon, Saint-Vincent, Verrayes, Saint-Denis and Chambave. The vineyards of Fénis and Quart also belong to the DOC Nus.
The cooperative's policy, very important for the region, is to give great importance to the indigenous varieties Petit Rouge, Fumin and Vien de Nus and to the traditional Muscat de Chambave and Nus Malvoisie grapes in vineyards from 500 to 850 meters high. Muscat was already very popular as the most important grape at the time of the Counts and Dukes of Savoy. Nus Malvoisie is the local name of the more famous Pinot Grigio.
With the renewal of the production regulations, the local Mayolet and Cornalin vines, which have returned in honor, are now authorized to carry the Denomination of Controlled Origin as well. The internationally known varieties of Pinot Noir, Gamay and Müller-Thurgau are also considered for the production of wine, as they too find suitable soils in the Aosta Valley.
A total of 19 wines are pressed in the cooperative from the grapes of the traditional cultivation area of the Aosta Valley, of which the lion's share can bear the DOC seal. The joint efforts of the winemakers gathered in the cooperative produce fascinating wines prepared with care every year. SUPERIOR.DE
