Domaine Meo-Camuzet
The origins of the Domaine Méo-Camuzet date back to the early twentieth century, when Etienne Camuzet, winemaker in Vosne-Romanée and deputy in the Côte d'Or (1902-1932), began to enlarge his company, acquiring the most interesting vineyards of the area. Thanks to him, the Domaine now owns this set of parcels with exceptional denominations.
He was also the last owner of the Clos de Vougeot castle, before giving it to the Confréirie du Tastevin. Precisely for this reason, Méo-Camuzet owns the parcel with the best exposure within this Grand Cru.
His daughter Maria inherited all the vineyards and, on her death, left the estate to her closest relative, Jean Méo, who at the time worked in the secretariat of General De Gaulle. Since 1989, his son Jean-Nicolas has managed the property, assisted for a few years by Henri Jayer, the most important winemaker of his generation.
The company, which is currently located in Vosne-Romanée, owns 17,5 hectares with a range of vines of the highest level: the Grand cru Richebourg, Échezeaux, Clos Vougeot and Corton; the extraordinary and highly sought after 1er cru “Cros Parantoux” by Vosne-Romanée.
The goal of the Domaine is to produce wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm. The two cornerstones of Jean-Nicolas Méo's philosophy are the use of raw materials of the highest quality and new wood every year.
Since 2003 the company has taken over some vineyards which it takes care of with the same care and dedication that it addresses to those owned. The selection and vinification criteria are the same, with equally remarkable results. The wines from these vineyards are marked with the red writing, on the label, "MÉO-CAMUZET Frère & Soeurs".
