Chateau Guiraud
In 1766, the estate, formerly called La Maison Noble du Blaye, was bought by the Guiraud family of merchants, from which its current name derives. The Guirauds built a Protestant chapel on the property, an affirmation in Catholic France. The next "affront" came with the label, which the Guirauds designed in black and gold, as opposed to the usual white. The language of drawing, with its straight lines and block letters in contrast to the typical style of handwriting, was absolutely avant-garde for the nineteenth century and represented the family as a symbol of the Republic and its faith, which differed from the norm.
