Berretta
The Berritta family has been cultivating vines and olive trees for several generations. We currently own an area of about ten hectares planted with vineyards, to which are added a further three hectares dedicated to olive groves, the product of which is intended for family consumption.
The land is located in the countryside of Dorgali, in the suggestive Oddoene valley. The valley, thanks to the numerous crops, was the symbol of the economic rebirth after World War II. It is located not far from the sea and the soils are rich in disintegrating granite mixed with limestone. Furthermore, the microclimate gives the area an unmistakable character, which is perfectly suited to the cultivation of the vine.
The vines are made up of 75 percent of Cannonau. This variety finds its classic and natural habitat in the Dorgali valleys. In addition to the traditional Sardinian and Mediterranean wine, we cultivate Syrah: this variety is vinified both alone and with a blend together with Cannonau.
Starting from the 2020 vintage we also produce Vermentino, the prince among the whites of Sardinia. Then there is the Panzale: it is a rare native white grape variety. This type, originally intended for consumption as a table grape, was however rediscovered thanks to a brilliant intuition of Antonio Berritta, vigneron and founder of our winery.
Antonio Berritta, starting from the Eighties, began a long and careful work of recovery and selection of this plant, with the aim of transforming its fruits into a wine with an unmistakable flavor. The Panzale, bottled since 2005, releases an enormous freshness, flavor and notes of almond.
Our vines have always been bred with traditional methods and agronomic techniques aimed at organic production, respectful of the plants themselves, of the environment and of the soil and also of traditions. The organic certification is present on the label starting from the 2019 vintage.
The wines currently produced are nine and the current wine production is about 30 thousand bottles. The constant aim of the winery is to use the full potential of the vineyards, totaling about twenty hectares.
