Baron de Rothschild
Fascinated by the largest terroirs in the world and strong with an entrepreneurial spirit of over two centuries, in 2005 the Rothschild family founded the Maison di Champagne Baron de Rothschild. This family creation is the fruit of the unprecedented alliance between the three branches (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Clarke, Château Lafite Rothschild) and aims to enhance the majestic terroir of the Champagne, which embodies quality and the art of living beyond national borders.
When it comes to French wines, the name Rothschild can hardly be avoided. The Rothschild family's winemaking tradition dates back several generations. It all began with Amschel Rothschild, born in Germany in 1744, who founded the dynasty. His nephew Nathaniel was the first to enter the viticulture business. He bought land in Pauillac in 1853, but it was his great-grandson Philippe who transformed Château Mouton-Rothschild, as the estates were called, into the world-famous wine estate it still is today.
Other family members were also involved in viticulture, for example with Lafite-Rothschild.
Today, there are three family businesses in viticulture under the Rothschild name. These three branches of the family, with a total of numerous wineries, have finally come together for a single project: Champagne Barons de Rothschild.
To this end, they joined forces with other Champagne families. In this way, a lot of know-how and quality flow into the champagnes. In 2009, the Rothschilds finally unveiled their first 3 champagnes.
Baron Eric de Rothschild of Lafite, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and his mother, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild of Mouton, as well as Baroness Ariane de Rothschild and her husband, Baron Benjamin de Rothschild of Clarke and Peyre-Lebade are involved.
