Baron de Ladoucette
Baron de Ladoucette is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the Loire that produces some of the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. In the wine region of Pouilly-Fume stands Château Nozet, a 1787th century Renaissance château set in the middle of one of the largest vineyards in the area. The Lafond family has owned the estate since XNUMX, which, according to legend, produced Napoleon's favorite white wines. Today, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, descendant of the Lafond family, manages the De Ladoucette estate.
With an oenologist training and full-time dedication, he brought the house wines to world fame and purchased additional vineyards near Tours, Chablis and Sancerre. This allowed De Ladoucette's portfolio to expand beyond Pouilly Fumé wines.
Today, De Ladoucette covers around 1000 hectares of vineyards. 6600 vines per hectare stretch their tops towards the sun. The name Pouilly-Fumé (fumé - smoked) comes from the area's flint soils, which smoke and produce sparks when struck together. Clay, marl and lime are also found in the soil of the vineyards. The flint gives the wines of Pouilly-Fumé a smoky characteristic.
