Krug
The name Krug embodies a Champagne producer perhaps the most acclaimed in the whole world and of Cuvée of true prestige; considered by many to be the most unique of the Champagne. Founded in 1843 by Johann Joseph Krug, this house began to apply new winemaking systems by vinifying its wines by parcel and individually, thus going beyond the restrictions of the vintages and maintaining a beautiful catalog of reserve wines.
Since then, six generations have inherited the management of the company, perpetuating a characteristic Champagne produced according to strict quality control standards. A unique Champagne, whose coupage varies according to the particular characteristics of each year, but which translates into a style easily recognizable for its balance, its delicacy and its complexity.
Maison Krug works with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, which are incorporated in different proportions depending on the climatic conditions of the vintage. Krug owns only 20 hectares of vineyards in Ay, Ambonnay, Mesnil and Trépail, but counts on the yields of other winemakers for the exclusive supply of grapes grown on around 250 plots.
All wines must ferment, with each particle treated individually, in old 205-liter barrels made of Argonne oak, and can remain there for 5 to 18 years. In the manufacture of Krug, malolactic fermentation is avoided in order to maintain acidity and ensure a long aging potential.
Today Krug has more than 150 wines in reserve and thousands of tasting notes to ensure that each year its champagnes faithfully represent this legendary company, with their distinctive soft, luxurious and velvety flavor, rich in nuances and subtleties.
Krug belongs to the leading luxury goods manufacturing group, LVMH, along with other companies such as Champagne Moët & Chandon, Ruinart, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin and Jas. Hennessy & Co.
